Biographical Data

William J. Coad, P.E., FASHRAE, Chairman

William J. Coad, a mechanical engineering graduate of Washington University, is Past Chairman and CEO of McClure Engineering Associates. Following 40 years with McClure Engineering, he served as President of ASHRAE in 2001-2002 and now serves as Board Chairman of Coad Engineering Enterprises. For 29 years he taught mechanical engineering courses as an affiliate professor at Washington University in St. Louis. He currently serves as the president of the ASHRAE College of Fellows.

He has published over 150 papers and articles and two books on HVAC and the energy sciences. He is a recipient of numerous professional awards including ASHRAE's Distinguished Service Award, Crosby Field Award for best paper in 1985; Distinguished Fellow Award; Best Journal Article of 1991; Exceptional Service Award; Andrew J Boggs Award; the F. Paul Anderson Award; the Donald Julius Groen Prize of 2001 (from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers of the UK); the Alumni Achievement Award from Washington University; and is an honorary member of Pi Tau Sigma.

In addition to his current position with Coad Engineering, he serves on the Board of Directors of Exergen Corporation of Newton, Massachusetts, Mestek Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) of Washington, D.C.

Albert W. Black III, Ph.D., P.E., Vice President of Engineering

Dr. Black received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he was employed by ESSO Research and Engineering and McDonnell Aircraft Company. After graduation, served on the faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Washington University and at Parks College of St. Louis University.

In 1974 he joined McClure Engineering Associates. His primary responsibility at McClure was the development of energy analysis and load calculation algorithms. The energy analysis programs were originally designed for mainframe computers and were marketed under the company name of Mechanical Engineering Data Services, Inc. (MEDSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of McClure Engineering.

In addition to his responsibilities for MEDSI, Dr. Black provided services in the analyses and diagnostics of unique problems in the performance of HVAC systems and machinery.

David A. Pollack, M.A., President

David Pollack attended Columbia University in New York (BA, Phi Beta Kappa), and Oxford University (MA, Kellett Fellow). He maintains strong ties with both Universities.

In his professional career Mr. Pollack has served as a consultant to major universities and Fortune 1000 corporations on collaborative technologies. He has been on the leading edge of computer applications in distance learning and conferencing solutions.

David has served on the faculty of the University of Missouri - St. Louis, and is currently a lecturer in Environmental Ethics at Washington University in St. Louis. His current course offerings center on climate change - a complex issue with underlying scientific, moral, economic, political, theological, cultural, and psychological dimensions.

He joined ESI as a founding member in 2002, and provides the technological expertise that allows ESI to offer its product online.
